Choosing an office desk
Start with width. 1200mm suits a laptop and one monitor, 1400mm is the sensible default for most office work, and 1600mm or 1800mm is what dual screens and paperwork actually need. Depth is normally 600mm or 800mm, and the deeper top keeps a large screen out of your face. Measure the wall before you measure the desk: a 1600mm top on a 3200mm wall leaves nowhere to pull a chair out.
Then pick the leg, which people leave until last and regret. Cantilever legs keep the back of the desk clear and take a pedestal easily. Panel ends look more solid but box the underside in. Cable managed legs have a duct built into the leg and a spine under the top, and they are the only version that keeps a floor tidy once a dock and a charger arrive. Scalloped edge desks bring the keyboard closer without shortening the desk.
What to buy with it
Under-desk storage is the thing most people forget, so add pedestals and drawers, or look at desks with storage if you would rather have it built in. A properly adjusted task chair matters more to comfort than the desk does, and monitor arms hand you back the surface you have just paid for.
