A straight desk is a plain rectangle, and that is why it is the most useful shape in an office: it lines up in rows, sits back to back, tucks into an alcove and takes a screen at either end with no awkward corner. The Impulse range covers the lot here, in 800mm standard and 600mm slimline depths, on a cantilever leg, a panel end or a cable managed leg, plus scalloped edge tops cut away at the front so you sit closer in.
Choosing a straight desk
Depth first. An 800mm top is the safe choice for anyone with two monitors or a monitor and a laptop riser, because it keeps the screens far enough away to read comfortably. A 600mm slimline suits a hot desk or a narrow room, but gets tight as soon as someone adds a second screen. Then width: 1200mm handles one screen and a notepad, 1400mm is the everyday choice, and 1600mm or 1800mm leaves room for papers and a colleague to sit alongside.
The leg type decides more than looks. Cantilever legs leave the space underneath clear, so cleaning is easy and a pedestal rolls along the run. Panel ends close the sides in and look more solid, so they suit a desk end on show to visitors. Cable managed legs carry a removable cover so power and data drop out of sight. If somebody is at the desk all day, compare these against a height adjustable desk before settling on a fixed top.
Storage, screens and cables
Straight desks always want something under them and something on them. A three drawer pedestal, or a desk with the storage already specified, saves making that decision twice. In banks of two or more, desktop and bench screens mark out personal space and take some noise out of the room, and a monitor arm gives you the surface back. If the desk is not against a wall with a socket, plan the cable management before delivery day.
Desks for offices in Ipswich, Felixstowe and beyond
Behind Office Masters is Neil Andrew Office Solutions, a family run business working from Edison Close on Ransomes Europark in Ipswich. It goes back to the 1980s and Neil's father Malcolm, and has traded under Neil's name since 2017. We measure up, supply and install across Suffolk and Essex, and deliver free anywhere on the UK mainland within five working days.
Desks are where a site visit pays for itself, because door widths, lift sizes and where the power comes out of the floor shape the layout. We install regularly in Ipswich, Felixstowe, Sudbury and Stowmarket, and over the border in Chelmsford. Add pre-build and the desks arrive built, levelled and with the cardboard gone.
