A panel end desk closes the sides with a full height board instead of an open metal frame, which hides legs and cables from anyone walking past and gives some modesty when the desk faces into a room. All of these come from the Impulse range: a straight top, a scalloped edge top, a crescent workstation, or a version with fixed pedestals built in, in matching finishes. They suit receptions and client facing offices where the sides are on show; where nobody sees them, cantilever leg desks cost less and move more easily.
Choosing a panel end desk
Think about the room first. These look best in runs, because two or three together read as a deliberate scheme while a single one among open frames looks like a leftover. They are heavier than a cantilever desk, so they suit fixed layouts. Widths from 1200mm to 1800mm are the usual choices, and a full 800mm depth leaves a screen at arm's length.
Then the top and the storage. The Impulse Scalloped Edge panel end desks with fixed pedestals put the drawers inside the frame, which keeps the footprint tight but means you cannot move them later; for that flexibility, take a plain top and add a mobile unit from pedestals and drawers. Cables are what people forget. A panel end hides them well, but you still need a route down to the socket, so check the floor box and compare cable managed desks.
Matching desks and storage
Panel end tops share finishes with the rest of the Impulse contract desking collection, so shapes mix happily: a crescent or wave desk for the manager, plain scalloped edge desks for the team, and desks with storage where everyone needs drawers. Fixed sides limit how far you can swing out, so a compact seat from task and operator chairs works better than a wide executive base.
Panel end desks in Ipswich and across Suffolk
Office Masters is the online shop of Neil Andrew Office Solutions Limited, a family run supplier and installer working from Edison Close on Ransomes Europark in Ipswich. The business grew out of Malcolm Andrew's firm in the 1980s and took Neil's name in 2017. We fit out offices across Suffolk and Essex, so panel end runs from us are in daily use in Ipswich, Stowmarket, Sudbury and Colchester.
Boxed, these are heavier than they look, and a 1600mm panel end is a two person lift up a stairwell. Standard UK mainland delivery is free within five working days with a next working day upgrade, but above the ground floor it is worth adding pre-build and installation so the panels are assembled in the room. Send a floor plan and we will tell you what fits, or phone 01473 464644.
