Planning the run
Work backwards from the floor box or wall socket. One mains lead with a UK plug feeds the first desk, then chain leads carry power along the row, so count the sockets each person needs, usually one for the PC, one for the screen and one spare, and add a chain lead for every desk after the first. Tray depth matters: a deep tray swallows a power brick and a shallow one will not, which is the most common reason a tidy job ends up untidy again by Christmas.
Match the tray to the frame you have. Bench desking generally takes a full length spine, while a cantilever leg desk suits a telescopic tray fixed under the top. For power at the surface rather than underneath, look at in desk power modules and cable port top desks, which arrive with the grommet already cut.
What else keeps a desk tidy
Cable tidying works best alongside a few other things.
