Hanging screens deal with the noise a desktop divider never reaches: the chatter and ringing that bounces off a hard ceiling and carries across an open floor. These are Sch! acoustic wall and hanging screens, sold singly or in sets of three, working suspended above head height or fixed flat to a wall. Hung, they break up the path sound takes across a room and divide teams without building a partition, which matters in a leased office. They belong to the SCH! acoustic collection within acoustic solutions.
Choosing hanging acoustic panels
Start with the ceiling. A suspended grid will usually take a light panel on the right kit, while a plasterboard ceiling has to be fixed back to the joists rather than the board. Height matters as much as the fixing: hang panels low enough to interrupt sound at standing head height, but high enough that nobody walks into them, which generally puts the bottom edge above two metres. Three panels spaced across a zone do far more than one large panel in the middle.
The common mistake is expecting these to soundproof a room. They absorb reflected sound and cut the echo that makes speech hard to follow, but they do not stop noise passing through a wall. If the aim is a private conversation, the privacy booths and pods are the honest answer. Think about lighting and sprinklers too, since a panel hung under a light fitting throws shadows across desks.
Building up the whole treatment
Hanging panels work best alongside absorption at desk level and overhead. On a bench run, desktop and bench screens block sound at the seated position, while the taller Impulse Plus screens divide teams where a floor-standing panel is allowed. Above, ceiling baffles run in parallel rows to soak up reflections, and wall tiles handle the flat plasterboard causing most of the echo.
Acoustic screens hung across Suffolk and Essex
Office Masters is the online shop of Neil Andrew Office Solutions, a family-run company working out of Edison Close on Ransomes Europark in Ipswich. Neil came into the trade through his father Malcolm's business in the 1980s and relaunched under his own name in 2017. We supply and install office furniture across Suffolk and Essex, and acoustic work around Ipswich, Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Chelmsford and Colchester is routine for us.
Hanging panels are a job where getting someone in pays off, because the fixing depends on what sits above the ceiling tiles. Pre-build and installation can be added, and we will set the spacing so the panels do the acoustic work rather than just look the part. Free standard delivery covers the UK mainland in five working days. Send a photo of the ceiling and a rough plan, or ring 01473 464644.
