Four Sch! acoustic ceiling baffles: the Shade in Types A, B and C, and the Hatch as Type D. They hang flat on wires from the ceiling and absorb sound from above, which is the answer when the walls are glazed, plastered or already covered in whiteboards and there is nowhere sensible left for a panel. The shapes vary enough to read as a deliberate design feature rather than something borrowed from a factory floor.
Choosing and placing ceiling baffles
Coverage matters far more than any individual baffle. A couple of units above a desk cluster will take the edge off a hot spot, but a room with a hard floor and a plasterboard ceiling needs a proper spread, hung as a grid or in rows over the noisiest zone. Hang them low enough to do real work and high enough to walk under comfortably, and set them on edge so both faces are open to the room rather than pressed flat to the soffit.
Check the ceiling before you order, because that decides the fixing. A suspended grid takes hangers off the tee bars, a solid soffit needs anchors, and exposed services mean working around sprinklers, lighting and ductwork. Remember that baffles do nothing about noise coming through a wall, only about reverberation inside the room. If speech privacy is the actual problem, privacy booths and pods or desktop and acoustic screens will serve you better.
Treating the whole room
Ceilings are usually one part of the job. Hanging acoustics give you other suspended shapes, wall tiles cover the flat surfaces nobody is using, and the wider SCH! acoustic collection keeps finishes consistent between them. At desk level, Impulse Plus screens divide a bench desking run and absorb speech where it starts, which is normally the cheapest place to deal with it. Acoustic work in Ipswich and across the region
Office Masters is run by Neil Andrew Office Solutions, a family firm based at Edison Close, Ransomes Europark in Ipswich. Neil learned the trade in his father Malcolm's business back in the 1980s and relaunched under his own name in 2017. As well as selling online, we supply and install office furniture and acoustic treatment across Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and the rest of the UK.
Baffles come flat packed with the fixings and go up quickly once someone has decided the layout, which is the part worth talking through first. We have worked in offices in Ipswich, Woodbridge and Haverhill, and down towards Chelmsford where converted units and exposed ceilings are common. Standard UK mainland delivery is free within five working days, and installation can be added. Send a photo looking up at the ceiling, or call 01473 464644 and describe the room.
