A scalloped edge desk has a shallow curve cut along the back of the top, so cables drop through anywhere across the width instead of only where somebody remembered to put a grommet. Every desk here is from the Impulse range and comes in three leg styles, cantilever, panel end and cable managed, with versions supplied with a single fixed pedestal or a pair of one drawer pedestals. If you would rather have a defined round port than a continuous channel, the cable port top desks do the same job differently.
Choosing a scalloped edge desk
The leg decides more than the top does. A cantilever leaves the space underneath open, which suits anyone who wants a pedestal to roll right under. A panel end gives a solid modesty panel and a heavier look for a manager's office or a desk seen from the front. A cable managed leg has a route built into the upright, so a lead from a floor box runs up inside the frame and out of sight, and that is the one to pick when the desk sits away from a wall.
The common mistake is pushing the desk tight against the wall and losing the channel entirely. Leave a gap behind, roughly the depth of a plug and its bend, or the cables creep back onto the top. Decide the pedestal side now as well, since a fixed pedestal is built into the desk and cannot be swapped later. If you want to shuffle storage around, order a plain top and add a mobile unit from pedestals and drawers.
Finishing the desk off
A monitor arm clamps to the rear edge and frees the depth a stand would take, desktop and bench screens divide facing pairs without walling anyone in, and the Impulse contract desking collection has matching storage in the same finishes.
Impulse desks supplied and installed across Suffolk
Office Masters is run by Neil Andrew Office Solutions, a family business at Edison Close on Ransomes Europark in Ipswich. We have supplied and installed office furniture around Suffolk and north Essex since the 1980s, when Neil joined his father Malcolm, and the vans go out to Felixstowe, Stowmarket, Sudbury and Colchester most weeks. Anywhere on the UK mainland, standard delivery is free and takes five working days.
Desks come flat packed by default, so if you would rather not spend a Friday afternoon with an allen key, add pre-build and installation and we will assemble them in place. Send a plan with the sockets marked and we will work out which leg suits each desk, or call 01473 464644 and describe the room. A next working day upgrade covers a deadline that has already moved.
