Mesh backs come in three broad shapes here: medium back operator chairs such as the Tutti and the Zeus, models with height adjustable arms like the Ventra, and taller executive shells such as the Zure. They share an open weave back that lets air through rather than holding it against your shirt. If the office runs warm, or people sit in it for eight hours at a stretch, mesh is usually kinder than fabric or leather.
Choosing a mesh chair
Start with back height. A medium back like the Zeus supports the lumbar and mid back and stays out of the way when you turn to a second screen. A high back such as the Vegalite or Victor II adds shoulder and head support for longer sitting and video calls, but takes up more visual space in an open plan room. Check the arms too: fixed arms suit one owner, height adjustable arms matter on a shared desk, and folding arms let a chair tuck under a shallow top.
The trade off is the seat. Almost every mesh chair here has an upholstered foam pad rather than mesh underneath you, because an all mesh seat feels hard on the thighs after a couple of hours. Look for a seat slide if you are tall, since a depth that suits someone at 5ft 4in cuts in behind the knee at 6ft 2in. For heavy use or larger users, try ergonomic and posture chairs or heavy duty chairs rather than pushing a light operator chair too far.
Chairs, desks and the parts that wear out
If you are buying in numbers, sort the desks at the same time so heights work together: a 730mm top wants a chair that drops to roughly 420mm at the seat. Split by role, with mesh task chairs on the main floor and mesh executive chairs in private offices, then matching visitor and conference chairs in the meeting room. Gas lifts and castors wear first, and both are in chair spares and parts.
