These are the chairs that go behind the desk people are shown into: high backs like the Savoy, Rocky, Hawkes and Hatley, medium backs such as the Winsor and Ezra, and PU alternatives like the Mara. Almost all are black, on a five star base, and padded far deeper than a task chair. Buyers pick leather over the other options in executive chairs because it wipes clean and still reads as the senior seat in a room of matching operator chairs.
Choosing a leather executive chair
Back height is the first decision and not only about looks. A high back like the Rocky or Savoy supports the shoulders and head, which suits somebody who leans back to think or take calls, while a medium back like the Winsor stops below the shoulder blades and tucks under a low return. Measure behind the desk first, because a big chair in a small office cannot be reclined properly anyway. Over a radiator or in a sunny window, leather warms up fast and mesh executive chairs are the better call.
Check the mechanism next. Some give a simple tilt with a tension knob, others a lockable recline and adjustable arms, and that matters far more day to day than the grade of covering. Where several people share the chair, or somebody types more than they talk, fabric executive chairs stay comfortable longer, while leather office chairs covers the lighter task shaped versions.
Finishing the room
A good executive chair looks odd alone, so plan the room around it. Two or three seats from visitor and conference chairs stop the office feeling lopsided, and if the room doubles as a meeting space, one of the meeting and boardroom tables takes pressure off the desk. Deep padding raises where you sit, so size the office desks to match, and chair spares and parts covers the castors and gas lifts that wear out long before upholstery does.
